Inspired by sources as diverse as ancient Crete and Art Deco, admiring equally the machine-made as well as the handcrafted, Linda MacNeil meticulously constructs elegant small-scale works of plate glass, Vitrolite, and cast or cut crystal paired with precious metals or gold-plated brass. Trained as a metalworker, MacNeil turned to glass to add another element and another dimension to her sculpture. As Dan Klein, executive vice president international for Phillips, has written, "Linda MacNeil pursues excellence in the tradition of great craftsmen like Benvenuto Cellini, Carl Fabergé, and René Lalique all of whom reveled in the art of consummate skill. She is both a jeweler and a sculptor making objects of virtue closely related to jewelry."
